The PADI Tec 40 course is the perfect way to start your journey as a technical scuba diver. It might seem a bit daunting at first to switch paths, but PADI and Total Diving are committed to helping you ease into your new passion. By helping you gain the knowledge, skills, and experience as a tech diver, the Tec 40 certification is the best way to start doing full technical deep decompression diving.

The Course

The Tec 40 course will qualify you to make limited decompression dives to 40 metres (130 feet). Your instructor makes the course accessible by breaking it down into three knowledge development sections, three practical application sessions and four training dives. Throughout these sessions, you’ll have an opportunity to learn about the risks and responsibilities of tech diving, how to properly use technical diving equipment, including rigging and set up, gas planning techniques, oxygen limits, and decompression planning. The course also focuses on team diving techniques and how to deal with emergencies such as free flows, manifold leaks and more.

The prerequisites set out by PADI for the Tec 40 class are strict, but are well within the reach of most recreational divers looking to jump into tech! You must be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, a PADI Enriched Air Diver with at least 10 dives using enriched air deeper than 18 metres (60 feet), a PADI Deep Diver, and at least 18 years old. You must also have at least 30 logged dives under your belt to begin this course. PADI requires you to have a medical statement filled out and signed by a physician within the past 12 months to qualify.
