The ultimate symbol of your dedication to scuba diving and training. Work with us to become a PADI Course Director and join a group of elite instructors.

PADI Course Directors are PADI Master Instructors who have decided to take the next step as a member of the PADI community. At Total Diving, it’s worth noting that we’ve trained 8 successful Course Directors in the past. Not only are we capable of preparing our divers for various professional opportunities, but we work tirelessly to make sure that our entire team, whether starting their journey as a PADI Divemaster or applying to become a Course Director, are supported in their endeavours.

Who Are The Course Directors?

Course Directors play a pivotal role in the PADI community. They teach PADI Instructor Development Courses (IDCs) and other training courses for instructors, making them the leaders and role models for recreational divers and professional divers alike. Course Directors are highly respected individuals who have to meet a wide variety of prerequisites in order to be considered for this position.

Prerequisites

There’s a reason why people recognize Course Directors for being elite instructors with tons of experience under their belt. There are many prerequisites required to even fill out the Course Director Training Course (CDTC) application. Spots in the CDTC need to be earned, as they are not passed out to just anybody. The course is open to PADI Master Instructors who have a solid amount of teaching experience and who have assisted with several IDCs. On top of having your Master Instructor, you must also be an Emergency First Response Instructor Trainer, have logged at least 250 dives over your career, and have PADI Dive Centre or Resort work experience. This is not an exhaustive list of prerequisites, but rather a list of some to give you an idea of the commitment required to take on this adventure.

CDTC

After submitting your application and having it approved, you begin training to become a Course Director through online materials distributed by PADI. The actual CDTC takes place over nine days and includes presentations about organization and promoting instructor development, workshops, training evaluations, and more.
