The Course

The PADI Assistant Instructor course is your first step in the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). At Total Diving, we think this certification is a great way to start becoming a full instructor, but you don’t have to see it that way! Being an Assistant Instructor has its own merits. The course takes place over a minimum of 5 days, but most likely over 7, and teaches you exactly how to conduct PADI core courses. Since you’re already an experienced diver, this course will help you by developing your skills at controlled open water dives, public speaking, and demonstrating techniques. When a student diver has a question, you’ll be able to answer it. The key topics of the course include PADI Standards and Procedures for courses, learning and instructing the PADI system, risk management, diver safety, the business of diving, and marketing diving.

To become a PADI Assistant Instructor, you need to be a PADI Divemaster who has been a certified diver for at least six months. You also must have at least 60 logged dives and 100 dives total to attend, your Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care training from the past 24 months and a medical statement signed by a physician.
