I believe we have a great team and I wouldn't trade any of our team members.
However, many of our store team members are working at this dive center as a hobby while studying at McGill or Concordia... And when, at the end of their Ph.D., Bill Gates offers them a multimillion dollar contract to help him manufacture more defective products, they tend to choose that option despite the fact that their heart remains with scuba diving...
Therefore, we are frequently looking for new team members to replace these young capitalists who leave us for more money!
Occasionnally, we could also be looking for a new full time team member.
What Are We Looking For?
Because our busiest season is the Summer, we are looking for team members who can work with us in the store part-time during the Winter and full-time during the Summer.
You also need to be available during special events like the End of Season Sale and Open Houses as well as during special holiday periods when our regular full-time staff needs time off, like the Holiday Season period.
What Personality Traits Should You Have?
Every Total Diving team member has a passion for scuba diving and an obsession with client satisfaction.
Because small details make a big difference, you need to be meticulous. In scuba diving, we cannot cut corners with safety because our life depends on it. At Total Diving, we also do not want to cut corners with services to clients because their satisfaction and pleasure at scuba diving depends on it.
Furthermore, because a dive center is six businesses in one (a retail store, a school, a travel agency, a fill station, a garage and a rental store), you need to be very flexible and adaptive to changes and uneven work flows.
Finally, you need to be curious... You always want to learn more about scuba diving gear, travel destinations and training courses.
What Qualifications Should You Have?
All store team members must be at least divemasters and, preferably, dive instructors. If you are not yet a divemaster, you need to be committed to reaching that level as soon as possible.
Obviously, as a leading scuba diving career development center, Total Diving can help you achieve this objective. In fact, we tend to hire divemasters and instructors that we have trained ourselves not only because we have a great team of Course Directors but also because this training period gives us time to get to know you, while giving you a chance to get to know us.
It is better if you have experience in consultative selling. We are not used-car salesmen! We are scuba diving advisors. Therefore, you need to have good skills at listening and asking questions. You also need to display creativity at finding solutions for your clients.
Through our association with the Diving Retail Institute, we can provide you with consultative sales training to complement your current level of sales experience.
You will also need various technical skills that we can review with you. For instance, you must have HazMat training and be a certified Fill Station Operator. Total Diving offers all of these courses.
